Higher education institutions and research organizations must submit their applications by March 1 and March 10
The application period for the Verkhovna Rada Awards and Cabinet of Ministers Scholarships for young scientists has begun. Applications must be submitted by universities, research institutions, and enterprises based on prior decisions by their academic councils.
The Verkhovna Rada awards will be granted for 2020, while government scholarships will be awarded for the 2020–2022 period.
Eligible for the Award are researchers under the age of 35 (Ph.D. holders under the age of 40) who have made significant scientific contributions in the field of fundamental and/or applied research. Nominations may be submitted for either an individual researcher or a group of authors consisting of up to four people.
Each year, the Verkhovna Rada awards up to 30 prizes. Winners receive certificates, badges, and a cash prize. The amount of the prize is equal to 60 times the subsistence minimum for able-bodied persons (as of January 1, 2020, this amounts to over 126,000 UAH).
The list of nominees and their works for the Verkhovna Rada Award will be accepted until March 1, 2020. In addition to the set of documents specified therein, 10 bound copies of the abstract must also be included.
Higher education institutions, research institutions, and enterprises submit lists of candidates and the required documents for the Verkhovna Rada Award to the Science Directorate of the Ministry of Education and Science. Institutions not under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education and Science may also submit applications through their respective supervisory bodies to the National Academy of Sciences, relevant sectoral academies, or central executive authorities.
Candidates with significant research achievements who are under 33 years of age (or under 38 for doctoral students or PhD holders) are eligible to apply for CMU scholarships.
The government awards 320 monthly scholarships to young researchers for a period of two years. As of July 1, 2019, the amount of these scholarships was doubled—to two times the subsistence minimum for able-bodied individuals. Currently, this amounts to over 4,200 hryvnias.
Universities and research institutions under the Ministry of Education and Science must submit a list of candidates and supporting documents to the Ministry’s Directorate of Science by March 10, 2020. Research institutions and universities not under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education and Science submit applications for Cabinet of Ministers scholarships through their respective sectoral academies of sciences or central executive bodies.
