The Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding was named one of five winners in a competitive selection process among Ukrainian higher education institutions aimed at expanding the network of energy innovation hubs in Ukraine. This decision was made by the organizers of the competition, which was conducted by the NGO “School of Energy Efficiency” at the request of the “Professional Qualifications” component within the framework of the project “Promoting Energy Efficiency and Implementation of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive in Ukraine” (FEER), which is being implemented in Ukraine thanks to the agency “Deutsche Gesellschaft für International Cooperation (GIZ) GmbH» on behalf of the German government.

– “A total of 17 higher education institutions from 14 regions of Ukraine participated in this competition,” notes Professor Serhiy Slobodyan, Vice Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work at Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding, Professor Serhii Slobodyan. “Our university participated in this program—Vitaliy Kim, Head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration; his advisor on energy efficiency issues, Dmytro Kolosovsky, and the director of the Mykolaiv Power Supply Company, Valentin Linchenko. Ultimately, that interest turned into productive work. Today, we, as a team, are incredibly pleased that Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding has, as a result of our intellectual efforts, has made it into the top five. We now look forward to direct support from the German side in creating an energy innovation hub based at our university. Of course, we have also brought our strongest personnel in this field to this project, who have successful experience in conducting scientific research in the field of energy efficiency improvement. Most importantly, in terms of staffing the development of this area of activity we have no problems in terms of either quantity or quality. We also have a well-equipped logistical infrastructure, including the necessary space and research laboratories with appropriate equipment, computer labs for lectures and practical training, departments for research on new materials and coatings, and weready for the next steps. Moreover, we believe that the creation of an energy innovation hub at NUK will, first and foremost, strengthen boththe educationaland scientific aspects of our highly popular programs, such as 141 Electric Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Electromechanics, which is currently studied by 1,363 students, 144 Thermal Power Engineering (385 studentsstudents), 142 Power Engineering (594 students). Therefore, as you can see, the energy innovation hub at Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding is exactly what we deserve, what we are ready for, and something we will undoubtedly be proud of in the future.
In addition, Vice Rector Serhiy Slobodyan announced that, in addition to the Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding, the winners of the competition also included National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institutenamed after Igor Sikorsky" (Kyiv Kyiv), Lutsk National Technical University (Lutsk), Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University (Zaporizhzhia) Zaporizhzhia), Sumy National Agrarian University (Sumy). It is with these educational institutions that the contest organizers have already held their first introductory meeting and outlined clear prospects for further cooperation.
