On July 5, 2020, at the age of 81, the heart of the Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, laureate of the State Prize in Science and Technology, Honorary Citizen of Mykolaiv, Doctor of Technical Sciences, and Professor of the Turbine Department at the Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding, Georgy Fedorovich Romanovsky, passed away at the age of 81. From 1993 to 2008, Georgy Fedorovich served as rector of the Mykolaiv State Institute of Shipbuilding (MKI)–Ugorsk State Technical University (UDMTU)–National University of Shipbuilding (NUK). During difficult times for our country, he ensured the stable operation of the university. Thanks to his efforts, the university’s range of specialties was doubled, a transition was made to a multi-vector, broad-profile approach in training specialists for the development of the Mykolaiv region, and the institution’s material base was preserved. Under his leadership, the university received “National” status in April 2004.

G.F. Romanovsky had approximately 300 publications in domestic and international journals, was the author of more than 30 inventions, and authored a number of monographs and textbooks.

Georgy Fedorovich was the founder and first president of the Ukrainian Academy of Shipbuilding Sciences. He was a full member of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers of Great Britain, a member of the Royal Academy of Doctors of Spain, a member of the Academy of Engineering Sciences of Ukraine, the Academy of Technological Cybernetics of Ukraine, the Academy of Sciences of the Higher School of Ukraine, and the International Academy of Sciences, Technologies, and Engineering. For his outstanding contributions to the Ukrainian people, G.F. Romanovsky was awarded Certificates of Honor from the Verkhovna Rada (2007) and the Cabinet of Ministers (2002) of Ukraine. For his scientific achievements, he received the “Yaroslav the Wise” award from the Academy of Sciences of Higher Education (1997), the badge of the Federation of Scientists of Ukraine (2005), and a diploma from the “Golden Fortune” International Academic Popularity Rating (2003).

The administration and entire staff of Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding are deeply saddened by the passing of Georgy Fedorovich. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
