Students from the Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding have advanced to the semifinals of the ICPC-Ukraine 2023 World and European Programming Championship.

Sports and academic competitions have always been an important part of student life. This year, students from the Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding achieved impressive results in the international ICPC-Ukraine 2023 competition.

The first qualifying round of the International Student Programming Olympiad took place on September 30. Thirteen teams from NUK, representing various academic programs at the Educational and Research Institute of Computer Science and Project Management, participated in the competition.

The top five teams qualified for the second qualifying round, which took place on October 28, and represented the university with distinction. The team known as ATOMIC_Programmers achieved remarkable results, advancing to the semifinals of the World and European Programming Championships.

“Congratulations to NUKUP students Denys Davydov, Pavlo Fadeev, Daniil Korol, and their coach Tetiana Smykodub. This is a tremendous honor and recognition for our students, as well as for the university as a whole. We wish them every success in representing NUK at the next stage, which will take place on December 8–9 in a hybrid format—both on-site (in Lviv) and online,” the university announced.

It should be noted that the International Collegiate Programming Contest has a long history, dating back to 1970. The contest has been held in Ukraine since 2001, and students from the Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding have been actively participating in these competitions since 2003. The teams are trained by Yevhen Berkunsky, a senior lecturer in the Department of Information Management Systems and Technologies, who has served as the competition coordinator for the Mykolaiv region since 2011.

Since 2018, the Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding has served as the host university for the Olympiad in the southern region of Ukraine. These achievements demonstrate the high level of student preparation and the university’s significant potential in the fields of programming and information technology.

Through their joint efforts, students and their instructors continue to reach new heights in the world of programming and achieve new victories in academic competitions. The university is proud of its talented students and believes in their success, which we will be discussing very soon.
