Date: November 15–17, 2017
Venue: Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding, Mykolaiv, 9 Heroes of Ukraine Ave. (Main Building of the University).
Number of participants (including those from other countries for international events): 300.
Purpose of the event: To identify priority tasks for the strategic development of the shipbuilding and maritime transport sectors, to discuss innovative scientific and technical developments in shipbuilding and ocean engineering, and to explore ways to attract investment in the development of shipbuilding.
The aforementioned conference will help create a conducive environment for the effective implementation of research findings and for engaging young researchers—particularly students—in this work, which will serve as the foundation for Ukraine’s revival as a European maritime power and for the development of shipbuilding and maritime education, thereby meeting the industry’s growth needs.
A brief summary of the most significant scientific achievements obtained over the past 3–5 years in the relevant field, including the universities and research institutions involved in the collaboration:
The university has achieved significant accomplishments in education and research, and its activities have a positive impact on the development of the shipbuilding, maritime, and other sectors of the national economy, as well as on their technical policies. The institute’s researchers actively collaborate with institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU) and foreign universities. Department branches are being established, and joint research projects are being carried out. International and national scientific and technical conferences are held. The NUK hosts off-site meetings of the Southern Scientific Center of the NASU and the Ministry of Education and Science. Significant attention is paid to the publication of scientific works by university researchers and the publication of scientific, scientific-methodological, and educational literature. Thus, the total number of publications has increased from 1,208 to 1,649. An important scientific and technical problem of national significance has been solved—the scientific, methodological, design, and technological foundations for the creation and serial production of universal transport vessels and ocean engineering equipment have been developed, resulting in the construction of more than 180 vessels and 20 ocean engineering systems at domestic and foreign shipyards. Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding maintains close ties with nearly foreign universities, research institutions, and academic organizations. Among them are: HITACO Ltd. (SRV); Research Institute of Marine Boilers and Turbines, Harbin, PRC; Zhoushan International Maritime College, PRC; Jiangsu University of Science and Technology (PRC); Harbin Engineering University, PRC; Jilin Polymer Research Institute, PRC; and others.
The National University of Shipbuilding also maintains close ties with such world-renowned organizations as RINA (Royal Institution of Naval Architects, London, UK) and IMARE (The Institution of Marine Engineers, London, UK).
Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding and Jiangsu University of Science and Technology have established the "Ukraine-China Center for Advanced Technologies," an international center for the exchange of technologies in marine design and ocean engineering (Jiangsu, PRC).
