International Scientific and Technical Conference "Marine Power Engineering: Current Status and Challenges"
Date: November 7–8 , 2019
Venue: Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding, Mykolaiv, 5 Kuznetska St. (Old Building of the University)
Number of participants: Approximately 100 conference participants are expected.
The names of foreign countries and the number of participants from each (for international events: Germany – 2; Kazakhstan – 3; China – 6; Poland – 6; United States – 2; Georgia – 5.
The purpose of the conference is to analyze the current state of marine power systems, explore the prospects for developing highly efficient power equipment for modern ships, and identify ways and methods to address pressing issues in marine power systems.
A brief overview of the most significant scientific achievements obtained over the past 3–5 years in the relevant field, including the universities and research institutions involved in the collaboration: Among the most significant scientific achievements presented at conferences and obtained by scientists from the National University of Shipbuilding and related educational institutions in Ukraine in the field of marine power engineering include the following: development of basic design principles for thermoacoustic systems utilizing low-temperature thermal resources of marine power equipment, which allows for increased efficiency in the utilization of waste heat from marine power plants; conducting a comprehensive study of the effectiveness of applying thermochemical technologies in the power plants of gas carriers, which allows for increasing the efficiency of the power plant; conducting parametric diagnostics of the operating process of main marine diesel engines during operation, which ensures a reduction in the overall vibration level of the engines and an increase in the engine’s service life; research into rational means of reducing the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) of ships, which allows for ensuring a level of energy efficiency that meets IMO requirements as early as the ship design stage.
Leading scientists from the following higher education institutions and research organizations were involved in the collaboration: Kharkiv Polytechnic University, Odessa National Maritime University, Kherson State Maritime Academy, Harbin Engineering University (China), Batumi University of Navigation (Georgia), State Enterprise "Zorya" Gas Turbine Construction Research and Production Complex – "Mashproekt."
Key topics for discussion: The conference will address the following pressing issues related to marine power engineering: Improving the efficiency of marine power plants; Research into operational processes in components of marine power plants; Energy-saving and innovative technologies in marine power engineering; Ways to improve the training of marine power engineering specialists at higher education institutions.
