Research interests:

Vessels for transporting support personnel to offshore wind farms (WFSV), small water-surface-area vessels (SWATH), design of multi-hull vessels, simulation modeling, optimization, genetic algorithms and their application in ship design, as well as the development of modern ship design methodologies. Application of modern computer-aided design systems (such as Aveva Marine, AutoCAD, Rhinoceros, MaxSurf) in ship design and modeling. Design of various types of ships. Assessment of the economic efficiency, reliability, and safety of various types of ships. Optimization of ship hull shapes. Assessment of ship handling and seaworthiness. Development of computer programs using a modern interface for solving ship design problems (API). Ship repair.

Oleksandr Valentynovych Bondarenko— Ph.D. in Engineering, Professor, and Director of the Shipbuilding Educational and Research Institute at the National University of Shipbuilding—is one of the leading experts in the field of shipbuilding. The main focus of his scientific work is a new direction in ship design theory that he pioneered, which is related to modeling the processes of ship operation. O.V. Bondarenko is the author and co-author of more than 190 scientific works, including 168 scientific papers and 12 educational and methodological publications, among which are 20 scientific publications in foreign professional journals included in the Scopus and Web of Science scientometric databases, three volumes of the “Rules for the Classification and Construction of Inland Waterway Vessels” (Ukrainian Shipping Register), 7 certificates of copyright registration for works, and one Ukrainian patent for a utility model.

O.V. Bondarenko's scientific work has been recognized internationally. He is a full member of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects.

Education: In 1994, he graduated from the Mykolaiv Shipbuilding Institute with honors, earning a degree in Shipbuilding.

From September 1, 1999, to September 1, 2002 – Assistant Professor in the Department of Ship Theory and Design; since 2002 – Senior Lecturer; since 2003 – Associate Professor in the Department; and since 2019 to the present – Professor in the Department of Ship Theory and Design. He received his Candidate of Technical Sciences degree in 2002. He was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor of the Department of Ship Theory and Design on December 16, 2004, and the academic title of Professor of the Department of Ship Theory and Design on December 16, 2019.

He also performed administrative duties at the university. From January to May 2004, he served as associate dean of the Faculty of Shipbuilding, and from May 2004 to August 2008, he served as dean of the Faculty of Shipbuilding. From September to November 2008, he served as acting director of the Shipbuilding Institute. Since December 2016, he has been director of the Shipbuilding Educational and Scientific Institute at the National University of Shipbuilding.

For his many years of dedicated service, significant personal contribution to the training of highly qualified specialists, and fruitful scientific and pedagogical work, Professor O.V. Bondarenko has been repeatedly honored with letters of appreciation, awards, and certificates, namely: an honorary certificate from the Mykolaiv Regional Council (2012), an honorary certificate from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (2005), the “Distinguished Educator of Ukraine” badge (2015), and the “For Scientific and Educational Achievements” badge (2019).
