Graduates of the “Healthcare Facility Management” program were awarded their master’s degrees

Today’s realities require healthcare facility managers to attract external investment and manage financial resources. These factors underscore the need for professional managerial competencies. Furthermore, in accordance with healthcare reform and Order No. 1977 of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine dated October 31, 2018, in order to lead healthcare institutions, officials must have a management education in addition to their medical training. This is precisely what prompted the administration of the Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding two years ago to launch the educational program “Healthcare Facility Management” within the Department of Management at the Faculty of Maritime Economics.

“At that time, the initiative came from medical professionals. Top management at medical institutions approached the university with a proposal to provide training opportunities for their staff. Naturally, the NUK administration agreed. And it is an honor for us to be among the first in the region to launch this educational program,” said Inna Irtyshcheva, Ph.D. in Economics and Head of the Department of Management at NUK.

In December 2020, the first thesis defense for the master’s program in “Healthcare Facility Management” took place. Thirty-three leading healthcare professionals well-known in Mykolaiv and the surrounding region successfully defended their master’s theses.

According to Serhiy Koval, associate professor and deputy director of the Educational and Research Center for Correspondence and Distance Education at the National University of Kyiv, among them are Oleksandr Chebotariov, Honored Doctor of Ukraine; Yevhen Volokhov, head of Maternity Hospital No. 1 and Honored Doctor of the Ukrainian SSR; Heorhiy Kovalenko, head of Maternity Hospital No. 2 and Honored Doctor of Ukraine; Serhiy Gubanov, Director of the Mykolaiv Basic Medical Vocational College of the Mykolaiv Regional Council.

Thus, the fruitful collaboration between Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding and medical institutions in the Mykolaiv region has already yielded its first results. The university is confident that this educational program will be in demand not only in the region but throughout the country.
